It is with deep sorrow that we remember Lonnie Dayton, a beloved member of the Carthage community, who passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026, at the age of 78. Lonnie was a man of integrity, strength, and unwavering dedication to his family and country. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 54 years, Kathleen Dayton, whose love and companionship meant the world to him. He also mourned the loss of his brothers, Charles and Jerry Dayton, who were lifelong family ties.
Lonnie is survived by his brother, Danny Dayton, and his cherished children, Christina (Wil) Mundy, Jonathan (Lena) Dayton, and Theresa Goff. He was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren and a loving great-grandfather to two. His family was his greatest joy, and he took pride in their accomplishments and well-being.
A proud veteran of the Vietnam War, Lonnie served honorably in the United States Air Force. His service exemplified his commitment to his country and his sense of duty. Beyond his military career, Lonnie was known for his love of engaging in meaningful debates, staying informed on current events, and exploring topics related to politics and religion. His inquisitive mind and passionate spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
In accordance with Lonnie’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. His family will hold private services to honor his memory.
