Sue Simms Princeton, KY Death-Obituary: Cherished Educator and Volunteer: In Loving Memory of Sue Simms

Sue Simms, 78, of Princeton, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, May 14, 2026. Her passing marks the loss of a beloved community servant, devoted mother, grandmother, and lifelong supporter of Caldwell County.

Born on March 22, 1948, in Cadiz, Kentucky, Sue was the daughter of the late John and Beulah Croft Yandell. She moved to Caldwell County at just two months old and remained a proud and faithful resident for the rest of her life. A graduate of Caldwell County High School’s Class of 1966, Sue carried a deep pride in her school and community throughout her life.

In 1987, she began working with the Caldwell County Board of Education as a secretary and receptionist, where she became a familiar and welcoming presence to students, parents, and staff until her retirement in 2014. Alongside her administrative role, she also served for many years as a school bus driver, further reflecting her dedication to local children and families.

Sue’s love for Caldwell County High School was especially evident through her unwavering support of the Tigers football program. She proudly drove the 1998 State Championship team and was later inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame. Her spirit and enthusiasm even led her to serve as the Tigers’ mascot, allowing her to stand proudly alongside the team she so deeply loved. Her many contributions earned her numerous honors, including recognition as a Kentucky Colonel, the Mr. Henry Smith Award, and the Unsung Hero Award from Community Disciples.

She dedicated more than two decades to Caldwell County Project Graduation and was an active member of First Baptist Church, where she served in the nursery and as a church bus driver.

Sue, lovingly known as “SueMomma,” is survived by her sons Jeff (Amy) Simms and John Y. Simms, and her granddaughter Ellie Simms. She is also remembered by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Jean Yandell, and her brothers John Wayne Yandell and Jack Yandell.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2026, at Morgan’s Funeral Home, with burial following at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 17, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made to local youth support organizations in her memory.
