In Loving Memory of Arlene Patricia Schumacher (Polega), 71, of Silverwood, MI, who peacefully passed away on May 16, 2026.
Born on September 7, 1954, in Bad Axe, MI, Arlene was a beloved member of her community whose warmth and kindness touched everyone she met. She spent many years running Blocks Country Market in Parisville, Michigan, where she delighted in connecting with customers and helping her neighbors. Her friendly personality and bright smile made her a favorite among patrons. Later in life, she worked as a cashier at Walmart locations in Bad Axe and Caro, where she continued to brighten the days of many, especially children, with her cheerful spirit and dazzling earrings. Arlene’s life was driven by her love of making others happy, and she did so with her vibrant personality, flowers, boots, and infectious laughter.
A talented self-taught seamstress, Arlene crafted many of her own clothes as a young girl and even started her own business as a teenager. She was always eager for new challenges—whether sewing, creating wood crafts, or decorating her yard with her unique artistic flair. Her dedication was evident in projects like the purple barn curtains she made for her niece’s 4-H horse program, which served for many years. She loved sharing her skills with her grandchildren, teaching them woodworking and sewing, and enjoyed having them by her side at craft shows.
Arlene is survived by her son, Carl Block (Jeannie), grandchildren Leigha and Leo, and siblings Harold Polega (Joyce) and Angeline Hiller (Dale). She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo Polega and Bernice Osentoski, and sister, Helen Clor.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, and her memory will forever be cherished by all who knew her.
