Her passing at 4:42 a.m. has left family, friends, classmates, and an entire community grieving a future that held so much promise.
Just days ago, many were moved by a photograph of Evangelina in an ICU bed, wearing her graduation cap and gown while surrounded by medical equipment that helped sustain her life. It became a powerful image of hope, resilience, and the painful uncertainty her family endured. Though many prayed and held onto hope for a miracle, her family has now shared the devastating news of her passing.
Evangelina was a student at Kennedy High School and had already been accepted into the University of Texas at Austin, a reflection of her dedication, talent, and bright academic future. She was known not only for her achievements but for the energy and passion she brought into every part of her life.
Outside of her illness, Evangelina was deeply involved in her school and community. She participated in dance, soccer, track, band, color guard, powerlifting, yearbook, Bible group, and photography—each reflecting her creativity, discipline, and love for life. She was more than her diagnosis; she was a vibrant young woman with dreams, friendships, and goals that inspired those around her.
Family members describe her as someone with a “huge heart” who was always there for others in need. Her kindness, compassion, and strength left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
