It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Stuart Loewen, a 67-year-old Canadian visitor who tragically lost his life in Bhutan. On May 5th, Stuart was cycling along the scenic Trans Bhutan Trail when a fatal accident occurred. According to reports, he suddenly tripped and fell from his bicycle, resulting in a fall over the edge of a cliff.
Stuart was exploring Bhutan’s beautiful landscapes with his guide and two friends. The incident took place several kilometers before the trail connected to the road descending towards Punakha, a popular destination known for its stunning scenery and cultural significance. Despite immediate efforts to assist him, Stuart sustained fatal injuries from the fall.
The local authorities and rescue teams responded promptly, but the severity of the accident prevented any possibility of saving his life. His guide and friends are deeply affected by the loss, and our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.
Stuart’s body was transported and cremated in Bhutan, honoring local customs and traditions. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him and highlights the inherent risks associated with outdoor adventures, even for experienced travelers.
He was a passionate traveler, eager to explore the world’s diverse landscapes, and his spirit of adventure was evident to all who met him. Stuart’s love for exploration and new experiences will be remembered, and his loss is deeply felt by his family and friends back in Canada and around the world.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his loved ones during this tragic time. May Stuart’s soul rest in peace, and may his memory inspire others to cherish every moment and adventure life offers.
